Biography

George was born 6 Aug 1869 in Illinois. He was the son of Albanus Jenkins and Phoebe Hamlin.

In 1870 he was living in Long Point, Livingston, Illinois.[1] The household included Albanus Jenkins 37, Phebe Jenkins 19 and Geo Jenkins 1. Albanus was a farmer. William Hamlin lived next door.

In 1880 he was living in Long Point, Livingston, Illinois.[2] The household included Albanis L Jenkins 46, wife Pheebe Jenkins 29, son George Jenkins 11, daughter Mary E Jenkins 8, son Jessie H Jenkins 3, son Allen Jenkins 4 months, and employee Charles Knopp 25. Albanis was a farmer. Charles was working on the farm.

George Jenkins and Sylvia J. Dykes were married on 23 May 1894 in Dana, LaSalle, Illinois, United States.[3][4] He was the son of A L Jenkins and P E Hamlin. She was the daughter of George Dykes and Alice Wolsoncraft.

In 1900 he was living in Dana, LaSalle, Illinois.[5] The household included George A Jenkins 31, wife Sylva J Jenkins 31, son Orvil Jenkins 4, and mother-in-law Christina Buscher 66. George and Sylvia had been married 5 years. Sylvia was the mother of 1 child, living. Christina was widowed and had immigrated from Germany in 1855. George was a farmer.

He died 3 Feb 1904 in Dana, LaSalle County, Illinois[6] and is buried in Long Point Cemetery, Long Point, Livingston County, Illinois.[7]

His widow Sylvia Jenkins Patrick and her son John O Jenkins were named in the will of Albanus Jenkins in 1914.[8]

Research Notes

Who is mother-in-law Christina Buscher in the 1900 census? She does not appear to fit with the family. Sylvia's parents George and Alice were living in Livingston in1900. Is this just a census oddity?
