Biography

John was born 14 Apr 1896 in Dana, LaSalle County, Illinois.[1] He was the son of George Jenkins and Sylvia Dykes.

In 1900 he was living in Dana, LaSalle, Illinois.[2] The household included George A Jenkins 31, wife Sylva J Jenkins 31, son Orvil Jenkins 4, and mother-in-law Christina Buscher 66. George and Sylvia had been married 5 years. Sylvia was the mother of 1 child, living. Christina was widowed and had immigrated from Germany in 1855. George was a farmer.

In 1910 he was living in Groveland, La Salle, Illinois.[3] The household included George Jenkins 25, wife Sylvia Jenkins 41, stepson Orville Jenkins 14, cousin Robert Wooliscroft 29, and cousin Bessie Wooliscroft 17. This is not the George Jenkins who died in 1904. Looking at the census record, Sylvia was George's aunt, not his wife. It does say the George and Sylvia had been married 3 years. George was a laborer in a grain elevator. Sylvia was a milliner. Robert was a general laborer. Bessie was a seamstress.

John Orville Jenkins and Daisy Dean Sopher were married on 9 January 1916 in Livingston, Illinois, United States.[4]

Sylvia Jenkins Patrick, the widow of George Jenkins, and her son John O Jenkins were named in the will of Albanus Jenkins in 1914.[5]

John registered for the World War I draft in 1917-1918 in Crosby, Texas, United States.[6]

In Oct 1919, Sylvia Jenkins Patrick and John O Jenkins resided in Ralls, Texas.[5]

In 1920 he was living in Crosby, Texas.[7] The household included Orville Jenkins 23, wife Daisy Jenkins 23, son George Jenkins 4, daughter Sylvia Jenkins 2, and son John Orville Jenkins 7 months. Orville was a laborer, working out.

In 1930 he was living in Slaton, Lubbock, Texas.[8] The household included J Orville Jenkins 33, wife Daisy D Jenkins 33, son George W Jenkins 14, daughter Silvia I Jenkins 11, son John O Jenkins Jr 10 and son J W Jenkins 4. Orville was a boiler maker on a steam railroad.

He died 28 May 1939 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas[9] and is buried in Abernathy Cemetery, Abernathy, Hale County, Texas.[10]
