Edward was born in Victoria in 1856 around the time of arrival of the family in Mt. Beckworth, the son of George Jenkins (1808-1862) and Phillis Frampton (1819-1905). [1]
JENKINS.—On the 22nd December, at his residence, Werribee South, Edward Jenkins, late of Evansford and Korumburra, the loved husband of the late Mercy Jenkins, and loving father of Cliff, Clair, and Polly (Mrs. W. Bailey), and loving grandfather of Aubrey and Teddy, in his 85th year. (Private Interment at the Korumburra Cemetery.)
Mr. Edward Jenkins, who died at Werribee yesterday, was well known in many districts, where he took a leading part in public affairs.
He originated the idea of obtaining a diamond drill to test for a gold lead in the Talbot district, and with Mr. W. Thomas, head teacher of the Evansford school, he succeeded in raising the money required. The drill is now being worked by the Caralulup Mining Company.
In 1903 he moved to the Korumburra district, where he became noted as a breeder of Berkshire and Yorkshire pigs, for which he took many prizes at the Royal Melbourne Show and also at Sydney.
