Biography

Diana and Elisha had a family of six children. Both parents died approximately 1859 and the children were cared for by the friends of the family in the neighborhood.

85. Elisha Jenks (47.Mary5, 27.Jacob4, 11.Joseph3, 2.Edward2, 1.Christopher1) born June 27, 1774, Cumberland RI, married c. 1793, in Cumberland RI, Anna King, born Sept 27, 1771, Or Oct 27, 1772, (daughter of (?) King and (?)) died June 15, 1851, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N. Elisha died Nov 13, 1840, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N. Anna: Berkshire NY DAR records say d. Jun 15, 1854. She could be of the Clement King line, also from RI. Only family information is that she had a sister named Hannah, who married a William Vickery. There were some Vickerys in Owego and Syracuse at the time, but no William.

Children:

145. i Daniel Jenks born Oct 4, 1794, Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, married (1) bf. 1813, Abigail (Kinney) Keeney, born May 21, 1795, (daughter of Thomas Keeney and Mercy (Marcy) Lamb) died May 10, 1864/5, married (2) af May 10, 1864, Clarissa (Northrup) Northrop. Daniel died Aug 29, 1871, Vestel, Broome, NY. Abigail: Browne calls her and her parents Kinney. Another genealogy devoted primarily to Thomas does not list her as daughter. She is obviously really Keeney. Another genealogy has her as the daughter of Thomas Keeney and Hannah Soule.

146. ii Susanna Jenks born Dec 10, 1795, Cheshire MA, married c. 1814, Eli Blackman, born Nov 11, 1784, Peru, MA, (son of Abraham Blackman and Sarah A. Loomis) died Jun 13, 1847, buried: Blackman Cemetery, Caroline, NY. Susanna died Oct 10, 1851, Peru, Berkshire, NY, buried: Blackman Cemetery, Caroline, NY. Eli: They resided in Rawson Hollow, NY, which was settled by Lyman Rawson and the Blackman families from Peru, MA. This later became Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. One genealogy calls her (?) King, probably confusing her with her mother.

147. iii Calvin Jenks born Aug 8, 1797, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married July 19, 1819, Annis Ellen Brown, born Mar 14, 1801, Plymouth VT, (daughter of Daniel Brown and Polly (Jenison) Jennison) died July 15, 1869, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cem. Jenksville, Tioga, NY. Calvin died Mar 3, 1886, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cem Jenksville, Tioga, NY. Calvin was 3 years old when he arrived in the valley of the West Owego Creek in 1800 after his father returned to MA to bring his family to the new settlement. Annis: AE Jenks statements call her Annis Allen Brown, which conforms to Tioga Genealog. Soc. materials sent us, although they have her father as Abraham Brown (as listed in 1820 Berkshire NY census).

148. iv Huldah Jenks born July 28, 1799, Berkshire Co., NY, married Feb 14, 1827, in Berkshire, Tioga, NY, Hiram Humphrey, born Mar 1796, Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, (son of Roswell Humphrey and Elizabeth (Betsey) Norton) died Feb 12, 1878, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cem. Lot #02-Old. Huldah died Apr 28, 1865, Speedsville, Tompkins, NY, buried: Speedsville Cem. Lot #02-Old. Hiram: They resided at Speedsville, NY.

149. v Amy Jenks born May 8, 1806, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married David Aldrich, born Sep 25, 1771, Mendon, MA, (son of Edward Aldrich and Ann Chamberlain) died Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, NY. Amy died Dec 22, 1881. David: Amy was second wife. Browne book indicates that Amy and David had no children. Since Amy was b. 1806, she would have been 39 at time of Polly Aldrich's death/ A LDS file gives Davids father as Levi Aldrich and mother as Abigail Hunt.

150. vi Sabin Mann Jenks born Feb 28, 1816, Berkshire, Tioga, NY, married c. 1836, in Cheshire, Berkshire, MA, Eliza Jane Armstrong, born 1816, died Nov 4, 1898, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, NY. Sabin died Aug 29, 1865, Jenksville, Tioga, NY, buried: Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, Tioga, N. They resided at Trumansburg, Seneca, NY Eliza: Probable relative of the Henry Armstrong buried at Glen Hope Cemetery, NY and the W. Armstrong also buried there.
