Daniel Jenckes (Jenks) was born on 12 Mar 1702 in Attleborough, Massachusetts to Daniel Jenckes and Catherine Balcom. Daniel Sr. was a Yeoman and served as a town clerk and selectman of Attleborough. He also mentions a grist mill and other mills in his will, implying that he owned a number of properties. Daniel Jr. was named executor and received a good part of the estate.
Daniel (Jr.) married Mercy Sprague on 14 Feb 1727 and they settled in nearby Cumberland, Rhode Island, most likely on one of the properties that his father had left him. They would have nine children together.[1]Mercy died in 1749 at the age of 49. Daniel married Leah Whipple in 1754. She died in 1763 at the age of 48. Daniel died in 1789 at the age of 86.

Research Notes
In the Arnold compilation of Vital Records for Cumberland, their daughter Mercy is listed as Mary. Other sources, including the town clerk’s transcription done in 1958, give her name as Mercy. This makes more sense as they would name their last daughter Mary, and Mercy/Mary was still alive.
Mistaken Identity
Many sites have confused the death, and Daniel’s whereabouts, with Daniel Jencks of Providence, Rhode Island, who died in 1774. Daniel Jenckes (however it is spelled), born in Attleborough and who lived in Cumberland, died in 1789 and is buried there, not in North Burial Ground in Providence, which is where the other Daniel Jencks is buried.
