The Telegraph, St Kilda Sat 29th Aug 1885 "We may safely assert that every resident of St Kilda and district will regret to hear of the death of one of its oldest identities, Mr Henry Jennings, father of Cr Jennings, which took place on Saturday last, at his residence, Acland St, St Kilda. His death can scarecly be looked upon as a surprise, seeing the advanced age of the deceased gentleman; still, at whatever age, the loss of such a genuin Christian Gentleman is always severely felt, not only by those of his immediate relatives, but by the whole district in which he has been so much admired. The deceased gentleman has not, for some years, taken any active part in public affairs, but his private life has ever been that of a truely good and philanthropic character. Mr. Jennings good works could be enumerated by the score, and there are mant today who will grieve over the loss of such a sincere friend. The interest taken in Christ Church ( to which he belonged), superintendant of the Sabbath school, tract distributor, and other works long remembered; and his bereaved family may derive comfort from the fact that they have the sympathies of the residents of the district. The funeral took place on Monday, and was of course, largely attended."
1885 The Sydney Morning Herald September 4 1885 " The Hobart Mercury reports the death of Mr. Henry Jennings, who expired on Suday, August 23, at his residence, St Kilda, in the 8th year of his age. Although unknown to manyTasmanians of the present day, Mr. Jennings was, at the time of his death, the oldest member of the Tasmanian bar, to which he was admitted on the 23rd September, 1831, and half a century back, when connected to the late Mr. Gellibrand, formerley Attorney General of Tasmania, was a leading solicitor in the coloney. For about 40 years he resided in Victoria, where he practiced his profession with success. He was a man of unimpeachable rectitude, and both in Tasmania and Victoria was a leading member of the Christian Church, whilst his services and his purse were ever ready to advance the interests of his fellow men. The death of Mr. Jennings now leaves the Premier (the Hon. Adye Douglas), who was admitted on March 2, 1839, about eight years after Mr. Jennings, as the father of the present Tasmania bar. "
1919 "By the death of Mrs. Blanche Ellen Manley, in her 88th year, which took place at Blessington St, St Kilda, on Tuesday, one more link between the early days of settlement and the present has been snapped. The eldest daughter of the late Henry Jennings, solicitor and the widow of the late J. Wemyss Manley. Mrs Manley was thus related to two families closely associated with the earliest history of Tasmania and Victoria. Born in Tasmania and coming to Victoria with her parents in 1849, Mrs Manley spent the greater part of her life in St Kilda, which she saw grow from a small collection of scattered houses, connected with Melbourne by a bush track, into the present large and populous city. She was for fourteen years honorary secretary of the Women's Hospital ( then the Lying-in Hospital), was also a member of the G.F.S. council, and of the committee of the Wonan's Convalescent Home and took a deep interest in Church affairs, more especially in connection with the parish of Christ Church, St Kilda, of which her father had been one of the first vestrymen.
