William Jennings was born in 1750, in Albemarle county, Virginia. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, William was residing on Big Reed Island, in modern day Montgomery county, Virginia, which was established in 1776. William served in the Virginia Militia in Montgomery county, and took the Oath of Allegiance in support of the Patriots. [2]
William Jennings is honored for his service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A131485. DAR records indicate that he died November 15, 1843, in Island Creek, Carroll county, Virginia created 17 January 1842 from Grayson and Patrick Counties. William's wife was Elizabeth Ogle. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their sons, Jonathan Jennings, who married Nancy Henson; Thomas Jennings, who married Sarah Clifton; and Robert Jennings, whose wife was named Elizabeth (no maiden name given); and of their daughter, Diannah, who married John Durnil.
