Biography

Lucy Coleman Jennings was born the 19th of October, 1767[1]. Lucy was the daughter of John Jennings Sr.

Lucy married Benjamin Partin in 1786 in Fairfield District, South Carolina.

Lucy appears in the appropriate age brackets in the household of Benjamin Partin in the 1800 Federal census in Edgefield District, South Carolina.[2] Benjamin's household appeared as follows:

1 male under age 10
1 male age 26 to 44
2 females under age 10
1 female age 26 to 44

Lucy's husband Benjamin Partin died intestate sometime before the 7th of September, 1810. Benjamin's surname is consistently spelled "Partin" through the documents. Lucy applied for administration on Benjamin's estate on the 7th of September, 1810.[3] Benjamin's estate records show Lucy's father, John Jennings Sr along with Aaron Etheridge, Samuel Clark and Spear Price were named by the court to inventory Benjamin's estate. Aaron Etheridge, Samuel Clark and Spear Price were the men who did the inventory of Benjamin's estate that was submitted to the court. Lucy's brother's Jesse Jennings and James Jennings were her securities on her bond as administrator for her husband's estate. The family relationship of Lucy's family members listed in the estate records of Benjamin Partin are not stated in the estate records.

Lucy married a second time to a Mr. Howell.

Lucy made her last Will & Testament on the 18th of May, 1844 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. Lucy's will reads as follows: "South Carolina Abbeville District} In the name of God Amen - I Lucy Howell being of sound and disposing mind and memory but weak in body and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and being disirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it hath pleas'd God to bless me with do make and ordain this my last Will in manner following that is to say - I give to my son John Partan one dollar- I give to my Daughter Nancy Walton one dollar - I give to my Daughter Mary Elliot one dollar - I give to my Daughter Rebecca Brown one dollar - I give to my Daughter Katharine Howell one dollar - I give to my son James Partan one dollar - I give to my Grand Daughter Sarah Ann Elizabeth Mitchell one feather bed and bed clothing one spinning wheel and all my kitchen furniture - I give to my Daughter Lucy B. Jennings-12910 and Jennings-7978 appear to represent the same person because: Both women are named Lucy Jennings, both women have the same year and state of birth. Both women have the same year of death, however, Jennings-7978 has estate record source to prove place of death. Both women are married to Benjamin C. Parton/Partin. Second husband for Lucy is named in Jennings-7978. These are the same women and should be merged.
