Biography

William Jepson was born in 1667 in Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the son of Emm and John Jepston.[1] Why he is their only child born there, is unknown.

He was a cordwainer, and for many years a sealer of leather (1703), constable (1708), tithing man, overseer of the poor (1720) and surveyor of highways. The famous "Boston Stone" is the site of his property on Marshall St. in Boston.

He married Anna Cooper (1676 - 1720), daughter of Mary Brook and Josiah Cooper. She died in 1720.

He also lost his only son the following year, Thomas. He was a soldier in the Colonial militia of Massachusetts who lost his life in battle at Fort Mary in Winter Harbor, Township of Saco, Plymouth Company, now Maine. William was made administrator of his son's estate, 3 April 1722

One 26 March 1722, he married Mary Blanchard of Boston.

He died 24 December 1746 and he is buried in King's Chapel burial ground at the corner of Tremont and Schools Streets in Boston. His tombstone reads: " Here lies ye body of William Jepson, aged 79 years old, who died Dec ye 24, 1746." His will shows no evidence of his having living children, unless Hannah Bealy is one. He left 10 pounds to his nephew William, to Hannah Bealy one half of his household goods, and to William Payne, his executor, the balance.
