He was brought up as a frame-work knitter, left his master and served nearly 25 years in the Army.

Clicking on the baptism link takes one to the handwritten registration page and it is pretty clear, so I would suggest the record is correct. His fathers name is shown as Thomas Jepson and his mothers name as Elizabeth.

Thanks. I've linked them as father and son. The one discrepancy is the birth in "Alfreton" rather than South Normanton. I can't find his military records online. Does the information from the Society of Genealogists show that he stated Alfreton as his birthplace on enlistment? or is it assumption from his marriage? They are adjacent parishes, so the discrepancy may not matter. That is the only 1781 record I can find.

It seems to have been my error. I have just checked the original baptism book and it is clearly South Normanton not Alfreton. My apolgies. Chris
