Biography

Sergeant Wiley Jernigan served in the United States Civil War.

Wiley Hudson Jernigan was born on August 30, 1831, in Henry, Henry Co., Tennessee.[1] He was the son Thomas Jernigan and Nancy Diggs.
At age 19 on the 1850 US Census, He was farming, at his mother Nancy's, age 59 home, in Marshall, Mississippi. His siblings Lesia age 35, and Harriet A age 15 were also in the home.[2]
He married Harriett Jane (Newell) Jerniganl in 1855.[3] [4]They had nine children.

They lived in Pontotoc, Mississippi. In 1860 he and Harriet were in Pontotoc, Co., where He was a farmer. They had two children, Amelia and Samuel by then.[8]
Wiley was a Sergeant in Bradford's Company, Mississippi Artillery, (Confederate Guards Artillery), in the Confederate Army.[9]
He was back home, Farming in Toccopola, Pontotoc, Mississippi in 1870.[10]and 1880. [11]
By 1900, the family had moved to Texas. They were living in Stephens, Texas in 1900, where he was farming, with his wife Harriet, and children, Newell and Allie M. (Jernigan) Love.[12]
He died on October 17, 1913, at the age of 82 years, in Goran, Eastland Co., Texas, and was buried in Duster, Comanche Co., Texas.[1]
