Robert's birthplace was probably in Kent but I cannot be certain about this, nor about the date of his birth. He was married three times, certainly, and possibly four, but there is some uncertainty about the earlier dates. At present, I believe he was married firstly to Martha Chittenden on 30th November 1681 at Bethersden, Kent, and that they had three children. (I offer this information so that readers may judge for themselves.) I believe they had a daughter, Lidia, christened at Bethersden on 21st January 1682 (!683), daughter of Robert and Martha Gervase, followed by two sons, both christened at Pluckley, Kent; John (son of Robert and Martha Jarvis) on 15th February 1684 (1685), (possibly the John Jervis buried at Woodchurch, Kent, on 5th November 1699), and Robert (son of Robert and Martha Jarvice) on 9th May 1687. We then find a Robert, son of Robert Gervase, buried at Warehorne, Kent, on 16th May 1690. [Confusingly, however, we also find (in transcription) a Mary and a Martha, daughters of Robt. and Lydia Gervase, both christened at Warehorne on 2nd April 1689, Mary, daughter of Robt.buried there on 14th September 1689, and Martha, daughter of Robt.and Lydia buried there 31st January 1689 (1690). Was this Robert a different person, has there been confusion over the names, or was his wife Martha known as both Martha and/or Lydia ?] Martha, wife of Robert Gervase, was buried at Bethersden on 26th April 1690.Oliver-4952 09:59, 10 December 2017 (EST)
On a more sure footing, Robert Jarvis married Persis Bine at High Halden, Kent, on 15th January 1690 (1691). She was a widow, having previously been married to William Bine. They had four children of whom I am aware, all christened at Warehorne: James, son of Robert and Persis Gervase, on 24th December 1691, and buried there, son of Robt. Jervis, 2nd February 1708 (1709); Daniel, son of Robert and Persis Gervase, on 4th December 1692, buried there (son of Robt. Jervis) on 15th April 1714; Elizabeth, daughter of Robert and Persis Jervaise, on 8th June 1695, and Parsis (Persis) daughter of Robert and Parsis Jervise on 10th December 1696. Both daughters married.Their mother was buried as Peirce Jarvis at Biddenden, Kent, (her native place), on 19th July 1698.Oliver-4952 09:59, 10 December 2017 (EST)
Three months later, Robert married again, this time to Mary Frood at Canterbury. She bore him (to the best of my knowledge) another four children, again, all christened at Warehorne on the dates shown. They were: George, 9th July 1699 (son of Robert and Mary Jervise) buried there 8th December 1724; Richard, (parents as George's) 11th March 1700 (1701), buried there 7th May 1726 leaving a widow and a daughter; William, 8th April 1705, son of Robert Jervice, and Stephen, son of Robert and Mary Jervis, 25th October 1708. Mary, the wife of Robert Jervis, was buried at Warehorne on 17th February 1719 (1720), and he himself was buried there on 13th June 1723.Oliver-4952 09:59, 10 December 2017 (EST)
It will be noticed that Robert's name is recorded variously as Gervase, Jervaise, Jarvis, Jarvice, Jervis, Jervise and Jervice.
