Detleff Christopher Jessen was born February 25, 1730 in Holstein, Palatinate Germany[1] [2] [3]
He was a 24 year old wine cooper when he emigrated to Nova Scotia aboard the Speedwell in 1751[4], and subsequently became one of the founders of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He was literate, and participated actively in the community, as the master of the victualling lists, a lieutenant-colonel in the militia, justice of the peace, a judge, and a representative of Lunenburg in the legislature, among other offices[5] [2]
On On January 2, 1755, he married Francisca Barbara Rudolf, the sister of Maj. Leonard Christopher Rudolf, also of Lunenburg.[6].
Their daughter, Frederica Frances, was born about 1757 and baptized on June 20, 1757. She died November 23, 1773 at age 16[6]
Dettleib Christopher Jessen died August 12, 1814, at age 85[6]
