Biography

Walter Jessop was born in Sculcoates, Yorkshire, England.

Walter was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, on January 29, 1873. His birth was registered in Sculcoates. He was the son of George Jessop and Mary Ann Ashton. He was enumerated in the 1881 census residing with his parents and four siblings at 2 Havelock Terrace, Stoneferry, Yorkshire. In 1891, he was one of five children living with his parents at 16 Lockwood Street, Sculcoates. He was eighteen,single, and a "Corn Miller".

Walter married Eliza Ann Raper in 1894. The couple would have at least five children. (In the 1911 census, Eliza declared she had five children, but one had died). Walter and Eliza appeared in the 1901 census residing at 9 Green Lane, East Sculcoates. Three children ages three, four and six years old at residence. His occupation "General Rulleyman" (Corn). The family was living at 7 John Street, Hull, in 1911. Four children living at home, ages sixteen to eight. Walter's occupation "Sawdust Merchant". Walter and Eliza appeared in the 1939 Register residing at 25 John Street, Kingston upon Hull. His occupation "Sawdust Merchant".

Eliza died in 1950. Walter passed away on May 15, 1954. His residence at time of death was 25 John Street, Kingston upon Hull. His Probate was administered on August 27, 1954, in London naming children John Henry Jessop and Annie Elizabeth Mason, and Alfred Henry Thornton, solicitor. He was buried at Northern Cemetery, Cottingham Road, Hull.
