  • 1911 Census: 3 Charnwood Street, Coalville, Leicestershire, England. Thomas (55) & Annie (52) with unmarried sons Alfred (18) & Charles William (16), daughter-in-law Florence (28) & her children Leonard (4) & Edward (1)[3].
  • 1914: Charles William Jewsbury of 26 Bakewell Street Coalville, aged 19years 5months, born Coalville, enlisted on 15 May 1914 at Ashby de la Zouch in 5th battalion of Leicestershire Regiment. Height 5ft 9½in. Family as of 12 May 1919: parents Thomas & Annie Jewsbury of 26 Bakewell Street; brothers Thomas (36) of Rochester New York; Philip (31) of 26 Bakewell Street, Edward (33) of 5-6 S Union Street Rochester New York, Walter (29) of 29 Caroline Street Rochester New York, Alfred (26) of Thudor Road Whitton Middlesex; sister Jane E Grudgings (34) of 3 Charnwood Street Coalville[4].
  • 1915: Charles William Jewsbury, 1897 of the Leicestershire Regiment, aged 20, son of Thomas & Annie Jewsbury of 26 Bakewell Street Coalville Leicestershire England, died Sun 06 Jun 1915 and was buried in Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, Gremmerslinde, 8956 Heuvelland, Belgium [5].
  • 1915: Charlie operated a machine gun; he was killed on the slopes of Spanbroekmolen (Hill 76) on the Messines Ridge in Belgium by a large shell and died almost at once. There are two memorials: one on the clock tower at Coalville and one at Christ Church, Coalville[6].
