William was born in 1873[1] in North Cave, Yorkshire, England. At the time of the 1891 census he was working as a groom at Chevet Grange in the parish of Walton, Yorkshire.[2]
In 1898 he married Alice GIBSON.[3] In 1901 they lived on Low Street, Sancton & Houghton, Yorkshire. William was a farm horse groom.[4] By 1911 they had moved to Rise in Skirlaugh, Yorkshire. Five of their nine children had died.[5]
In 1913 William and Alice emigrated with their family to Canada. By the time of the 1921 census they were resident in Malahide, Ontario, and William worked on his own farm.[6]
William died in 1954 and was buried in Aylmer, Elgin, Ontario.[7]
