Biography
Joane was the wife of John Andrews of Kittery. After his death in 1671[1]she married Philip Atwell[2]a Kittery fisherman.[1]The marriage did not last, she "kicked Atwell out of the house. He and his worldly goods ended up "out in the bushes" and Joan assumed her former husband's last name, "Andrews."[1]
Following the death of John Andrews, administration of the estate had been given to Philip Atwell at Wells, Maine, on 2 April 1672. "Chr. Mitchell & Ephr. Crockett sureties, 15 Jany 1671, Inventory returned by Joane Attwell late widow & John Andrews her son."[3]
