1878-Mary Ann married Charels Smith in Bourbon Co., KS. His wife, Mary Magdalene (Boyd) - sister to Adam Boyd, Jr, Mary's 1st husband, had recently died. Charles died within months of marrying Mary Ann.
Mary Ann Job followed Adam Boyd's brothers to Colorado. They were traveling by covered wagon and George was in the back of the wagon. They had traveled many miles when it was noticed that he was not in the wagon. They were terrified and retraced their tracks. They found George sitting in the wagon ruts. He had not moved an inch. Luckily he was unharmed from the incident.)
"Adam Boyd and Mary Ann Job lived on a farm not far from Mapleton, Kansas. They built their home and it is still standing. Mary Ann Job married Adam Boyd at the age of 17. George Boyd said Mary Ann had a half brother. He said he used to ride horse back to see his grandparents. (I don't know which grandparents she is talking about.) Very little is know of her early life. To this union was born 8 children. (It lists the children)
In 1878 Mary Ann Boyd married Charles Smilth born July 15, 1827 and died Oct 6, 1878. He lived only a short time after the marriage to Mary Ann. In 1879 Mary Ann Boyd Smith with a number of friends and relatives and her children, went by covered wagon to Colorado. (She traveled with two of Adam Boyd brothers to Colorado) She remained there until 1884. Returning to Kansas and shortly after her return to Kansas she married Joseph Thomas McGowan born August 15, 1819. After his death she returned to La Veta and died at the home of Eugene Lougheed on December 6, 1904. (This is in the home of her daughter Ida Belle.)"
