Biography

There is a very uncertain tradition that a woman named Mary was born ca 1759 in Burin, and died in Bay of Islands[1], who married (1) a Robert Park, and (2) John Brooks. With Robert Park, she may have had sons Thomas Park (b 1796 Bay of Islands d 1870 McIvers, Bay of Islands) and James Clark Park (b abt 1805)[2]. Her maiden name is sometimes said to have been "Joe".

Several online trees claim that this Mary was the daughter of Thomas Joe and Mary Cabish who had a family in Bay of Islands ca 1800[2]. This seems impossible.

Notes

From an online forum: "Hi Diane, there has been a lot of discussion about her on this page. You might find something helpful in ‘older comments’ and I’m sure readers will help you out too. I have her parents as Robert Park, possibly born abt 1769 England, and Mary surname unknown, b abt 1759 Burin, died aft 1849 Brooks Cove. Mary’s 2nd husband was John Brooks. Mary Brooks Park may have been born 1793 and died 30 Mar 1862 at Cow Head. Sorry I haven’t got more, she’s a bit of a mystery it seems. Thanks for writing."[1]. Also: "Hi Darlene, Mary Brooks Park’s mother is a bit of a mystery. If you search through the comments here, you’ll find a lot of discussion about her. Her name may have been Mary Joe, but I’m not sure. She may have been born about 1759 in Burin area and died after 1849 in Brook’s Cove, Bay of Islands. She may have also been married to John Brooks. With Robert Park, she may have had sons Thomas Park (b 1796 Bay of Islands d 1870 McIvers BOI) and James Clark Park (b abt 1805)."[1].
