In the 1851 Census, Thomas (aged 16 and employed as a Cabinet Maker) was at home in Llantrithyd, Glamorganshire, Wales [1] with his parents William (a Shoe Maker) and Mary John, and his siblings:
Noah John (aged 25 and working as a Carpenter); and
William John aged 21, born in Llancarvan, Glamorganshire and employed as a Sadler.
Also in the household was a lodger named Richard Howe, who worked as a Shoe Maker.
On 13 February 1858 Thomas John (aged 23) married Elizabeth Smith in Aberdare, St Elvan, Glamorganshire, Wales. [2] According to Thomas and Elizabeth's marriage record, Elizabeth's father was John Smith, a Farmer, and Elizabeth was living in Duffryn at the time of the marriage.
In the 1861 Census, Thomas (a Carpenter, aged 26) was at home with his wife Elizabeth (aged 28) and their 1 year old son William John, born in Canton, Glamorganshire, Wales. [3]
In the 1871 Census, Thomas (a Wood Carver) and Elizabeth were living at home in Canton, Glamorgan, Wales [4] with their children:
The children were all born in Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales.
In the 1881 Census, Thomas was described as a Wood & Stone Carver. He was living with his wife Elizabeth in Wyndham Street, Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales [5] and their children:
Also in the household was Noah John (aged 55), the unmarried brother of Thomas who was employed as a Carpenter Foreman.
In the 1891 Census, Thomas (aged 56 and employed as a Wood Carver) was living with his wife Elizabeth in Hamilton Street, Cardiff St Johns, Glamorgan, Wales [6] with their children:
Thomas John aged 29 (unmarried and employed as a Joiner);
James John aged 26 (unmarried and employed as a Joiner); and
Thomas passed away aged 59 on 27 June 1893 and his death was registered in Cardiff. [7]
