Thomas was christened on 4 May 1862 in Saint John, Canton, Glamorgan. [2][3]
In the 1871 Census, Thomas (aged 9) was living at home in Canton, Glamorgan, Wales with his parents Thomas (a Wood Carver) and Elizabeth [4] and his siblings:
The children were all born in Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales.
In the 1881 Census, Thomas (aged 19 and described as an unemployed Carpenter) was living with his parents Thomas (described as a Wood & Stone Carver) and Elizabeth in Wyndham Street, Llandaff, Glamorganshire, Wales [5] and his siblings:
Also in the household was Noah John (aged 55), the unmarried brother of his father who was employed as a Carpenter Foreman.
In the 1891 Census, Thomas (aged 29, unmarried and employed as a Joiner) was living with his parents Thomas (aged 56 and employed as a Wood Carver) and Elizabeth in Hamilton Street, Cardiff St Johns, Glamorgan, Wales [6] with his siblings:
James John aged 26 (unmarried and employed as a Joiner); and
In the 1901 Census, Thomas John (aged 39 and employed as a Wood Carver) was living in St John, West Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales with his widowed Mother Elizabeth (aged 69). [7] Living with them was his sister Mary Susanna John (aged 32).
In the 1911 Census, Thomas (49 and still employed as a Wood Carver) was still living in West Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales with his mother Elizabeth (aged 79) and his sister Mary (42) who was assisting at home work. [8]
