In the 1871 Census, William John (born 1831 in St Mary Hill, Glamorganshire and employed as a Coker - a person who cleans fireplaces) was living in Hafodrinog, Llanwonno, Glamorganshire, Wales [1] with his wife, Ellen John, a Dress Maker born in 1844 in Cowbridge and their nephew James Morris, aged 6 and born in London.

According to an entry in a family bible held by David Stephens, William John(s) passed away aged 55 on 24 February 1885 and his death was registered in Pontypridd in the March quarter 1885. [2]
