Biography

John was born in 1813 in Pentyrch, Glamorgan, Wales to William and Mary John. He was baptized on March 31, 1813. [1]

He was married to Catherine Harry on October 24, 1840 in an Anglican ceremony in the parish of Llansannor, Glamorganshire, Wales by rector John F. Griffith. He was about 25 and Catherine was about 20 years old, and both of their occupations are listed as "farmer" at the time of their marriage. [2]
Their marriage banns were published on the first three Sundays of October (4th, 11th and 18th) before their wedding on Saturday the 24th. [3] Their witnesses were Thomas Harry, Mary Lewis, Mary Yorath, and Evan John. [4] [5] [6]

Their daughter Mary was born about 1846 in Ystradowen, Glamorganshire, Wales.
Their daughter Elizabeth was born March 21, 1853 in Llanillterne; a parish in Cardiff district, Glamorgan, Wales.
Their son John was born about 1858 in Llantrisant, Glamorganshire.
Their son William was born about 1862 in Llantrisant, Glamorganshire.

In 1871 they lived with their children Mary, John and William in the St. David Town area of Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales, next door to their daughter Elizabeth and her husband George Jewell. John's occupation is listed as "agricultural laborer" and Catherine's is listed as "laborer's wife." [7]

In 1881 they lived at 8 St. David's Place in Llantrisant with their sons John and William, and their granddaughter Jessie Naomi John, aged 11. John was still working as an agricultural laborer, and his sons were working as coal miners. [8]

In 1891 John and Catherine were retired and still living at 8 St. David's Town in Llantrisant. Their son John lived with them as well as their granddaughter Jessie. They spoke only Welsh in the household. [9]

John passed away between 1891 and 1901.[10] (Please see Research Notes below)
