Iola M. Johnson married Charles Carroll Ellis, with whom she was living at Canton, Maine, in 1900, with the Census of that year showing that they had been married for nine years and that she was the mother of three children, all then living with them.[1] Iola M Johnson married Charles Carroll Ellis at Livermore Falls, Maine on 29 Sep 1892. It was the first marriage for each. Iola gave birth to a daughter, Carol M Ellis, on 3 Jul 1907, four months after the death of her husband. Carol died the following year on 23 Dec 1908.
The widow Iola M. (Johnson) Ellis, 41, of Canton, Maine, and Charles D. Leavitt, 41, of Livermore, Maine, married at Livermore Falls, East Livermore, Maine, on 20 Jan 1912.[3]
Death
Iola died at Dixfield, Maine on 21 Jun 1945.[2] A FindAGrave memorial with no photo and citing no sources says that Iola M. Ellis died in 1945 and is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Dixfield, Maine.[4]
Research Note
The record of the second marriage of Iola (Johnson) (Ellis) Leavitt says that she was born at Livermore, Maine, the daughter of William H. Johnson and Maxie Packard.[3] She is undoubtedly the same Iola Johnson who was living at Livermore in 1880 at the age of 10 as the daughter of Henry W. Johnson and Orintha M. Johnson.[5] It was a common practice in the place and time for people to switch their first and middle names, so the Henry W. Johnson of the 1880 Census could well have been the William H. Johnson of Iola's marriage record. That the Orintha Johnson of the Census, 42 years and shown as born in Massachusetts old in 1880, and the Maxie Packard of the marriage record is the same person is shown by the 1850 Census, when Orintha M. Packard, 12, born in Massachusetts, was living in the household of Ephraim Taylor (probably her stepfather) at Livermore.[6] (Research Note by WikiTree contributor Stu Bloom, 29 Mar 2021)
