Biography

Malissa (Hodge) Johnson is a part of US Black heritage.

Mallissa was born in either Texas or Arkansas around 1868. She was the daughter of Dock Hodge and Lettie Lomax.

Mallissa was raised in Bowie County, Texas. She married James Johnson around 1886.

In 1900 James and Mallissa had eight children. They were living in Bowie County where James was a public school teacher.

In 1910 Mallissa was listed as a widow in the census. She was still living in Bowie Countywith a few of her children.

By 1920 Mallissa had moved to McCurtain County, Oklahoma, where she remained the rest of her life.

Mallissa passed away in 1945 at her home in Idabel, Oklahoma.
