Biography

Lucretia (Johnson) Smith was an early pioneer in Ohio.

In 1809, William Smith purchased land from Joseph & Hannah Wainwright, and Halsted & Catherine Wainwright for land "lying & being in Clermont County..." William and Lucretcia with their 8 children at their time, settled in the area known as Jackson Township, Clermont, Ohio. Mahala was the first of their children born in Ohio.

William and Lucretia are buried in the private Smith Cemetery on their former farm. It is thought that Alonzo was possibly buried there but a stone can not be found. Lucretia's headstone inscription: Wife of William, Sen. d. Jan 17, 1855 - 81y 1m 12ds

William and Lucretia are recognized as Ohio First Families (pioneers 724 & 5382) and Clermont County First Families (pioneers 5 & 6)
