Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Michael Johnson was a Virginia colonist.

Michael Johnson lived in Henrico County, Virginia Colony, British America.We know from records that his death was 22 Aug 1719. His birthday is unknown. [1][2]

Note: New Kent county was first mentioned in the records of the General Assembly in 1654. It was originally part of Charles River county, one of the eight shires the colony of Virginia was divided into in 1634. Modern day borders established in 1766. [3] St Peter's parish church was founded April 29th, 1679, the brick church built beginning in 1701 and completed in 1703. [4] [5] Michael Johnson was most likely born prior to the founding of St Peter's parish, however the exact date and place of his birth are currently not known.

Marriage

He married Sarah Watson and they had several children, listed below. : Marriage: [6] [7]

The following children of Michael and Sarah were baptised St. Peter's Parish in New Kent Co.;

Daniell, baptised 16 May 1699
Anne, daughter, baptised 12 Feb 1705
Sarah, daughter, baptised 12 Oct 1707
Agnes, daughter, baptised 2 Apr 1708 [prob 1709!]

No baptismal records for for following children;

Benjamin Johnson
Isaac Johnson
James Johnson
John Johnson
Joseph Johnson
Steven B. Johnson

Uncertain Parents

At this time we have unlinked Edward Johnson and Elizabeth Walker Johnson, because they have not been proven to be the parents of Michael. [8]

There is a Michael Johnson found in the parish records of St Peter's parish church, New Kent, Virginia. He has been posited as an elder son of Edward Johnson but this has not been proven. [9] [10] Douglass-990 00:09, 12 May 2016 (EDT)

If Michael's 1673 DOB and the 1677 marriage date of Edward and Elizabeth Johnson are correct it would be unlikely that Michael is their son.

YDNA results

YDNA test results from two descendants of Michael Johnson indicated that there was not a close match to John Johnson, thought to be the son of James Johnson. If Michael is proved to be a son, or relative of Edward it would mean there is no genetic relationship to John Johnson. YDNA Test results from a known direct male Johnson descendant of Edward Johnson should help solve this and the question of Michael Johnson's possible relationship to Edward Johnson.

Disputed Origins

Have reason to believe this person is the same as Michael Johnson although birth dates differ. It also appears as if neither is the son of Edward Johnson and Elizabeth Walker. Michael was born several years before Edward and Elizabeth were married; family names are not the same in Edward's and Michael's families. Both Michael's probably should be unlinked from incorrect parents. Shirley Dalton 14:13, 31 August 2015 (EDT)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Michael by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Michael:

I’m a descendant of Jehu John Johnston that went to SC from VA I think. My Johnston and Nelson genes are from the VA and SC lines. DNA seems to indicate that my Frank Nelson is from the Thomas Nelson lines of VA. I think I have Lee genes from Edmund Jennings Lee descendant matches on Ancestry.

Is this line a descendant of the Gilbert Johnston and George Johnston of Caskieben, Aberdeen area? There was Lumsden I think that married men from the Forbes Clan and the Johnston Clan and had children with both men.

Johnson-31529 and Johnson-9556 appear to represent the same person because: Johnson-9556 and Johnson-31529 appear to be duplicates. The dates of death agree as do place of death. The birth dates do not match however these dates are uncertain and speculative. Please review for possible merge.

Keep in mind that this merge may re-add Edward and Elizabeth Walker Johnson to the merged profile. If they are not his parents it will be necessary to unlink them again.

Johnson-24903 and Johnson-9556 appear to represent the same person because: same given name, same LNAB, same parents (questionable), same place iof birth, same place of death. Both have references to St Peter's parish church. Dates of birth do not agree however there are no sources to support either date so questionable in both profiles.

Working on the Johnson family. Have reason to believe, even though birth dates differ, that this Michael Johnson and Michael Johnson are the same person and need to be merged. Need more information before merging. Are you sure this Michael was born in 1692?
Parents need to be reviewed, This person was born 4 years before parents were married. Thanks for taking a look.
