Biography

John L. "Saddler" Johnson, who married Polly Miller is often confused with another John Johnson that was born in Louisiana, the son of Moses Johnson, and married other women (specifically Melinda Cole and Mary Clark) . Census records consistently show John L. "Saddler" being born about 1797 in Kentucky.[1][2] To confuse matters more, they also gave some of their children the same name.

John L. "Saddler" Johnson wed Narcissa Gibby (Gibson probably) in Opelousa on 19 March 1816.[3] His mother appears to be named Susan Lewellyn based on likely siblings church records.[4]

Saddler married Nancy "Polly" Miller at the Opelousas Court House on 14 May 1820[5]

He married a third time to Mary Jane Gilcrease (not certain if this is her maiden name) on 3 December 1865.[6]

Johnson-650 and Johnson-33700 do not represent the same person because: Please read first paragraph of each bio showing that the John Saddler that married Polly Miller IS NOT the same man as the son of Moses Johnson and Nancy Roberts. I will be removing Mary Clark and Melinda Cole as spouse of John L. Johnson born in Kentucky.

John L. Johnson, who wed Polly Miller is not the son of Moses Johnson. They are different people and have been confused over time.
