William E. Johnson was said to have been born in Batesville, Indiana in 1842.^[1] Both he and his wife list parents born in Pennsylvania on Census records with the exception of Ella listing her mother born in Maryland in 1880^[2]. He married Ella Risinger and was said to have lived in Napoleon, Indiana for the time period including the birth of youngest daughter Ella (1872). The Census of 1880 locates his family in the small town of Delaware which is between Batesville, Napolean, and Osgood.^[3] He was living in Osgood (near son Henry and wife Barbara) during the Census of 1910 and 1920^[4][5]. William was a farmer for his entire life. His children were Sylvia (died young), Alma who married G.W. Niebrugge, Harry (Henry R.) who married Barbara Crane, and Ella R who married Louis B. Ruhlman.^[6]
