Sarah Elizabeth (Libby) Butler, 89, went to be with her Savior on December 9, 2015. Libby was the ninth of 14 children born to Isaac P. and Nora Johnson in Lake Arthur, NM where the family farmed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Elmer Lee Butler and her son, Marshall Lee Butler. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Lamar, Herman, George, and Charles; and sisters Lorene Lambert, Helen McCaw, Christine Butler, Edna Utterback, Oleta Cooper and Oneta Brown.
Libby is survived by her daughters Elmyra Grelle (Nibby), and Beth Butler; son, Bart Butler; daughter-in-law Gayle Kelsey; grandchildren Eric Grelle, Mandy Owliaie (Ben), Michael Joiner, Allan Butler (Sarah), Elise Grelle, Christopher Butler (Brittany) and several great grandchildren; sisters Mary McCaw of Carlsbad, NM, Cleo Gossett (LeRoy) of Ephrata, WA, brother William I. Johnson of Artesia, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
Libby loved Jesus, children, and her family. She was a long time teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools at La Luz Elementary, Zuni Elementary and Menaul School. She was a member of Grace Church, Fellowship Bible Church, and Highland Baptist Church. She was active in Bible Memory Association, the Albuquerque Christian Women’s Club, AWANA and the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), and participated in the Albuquerque Association of Educational Retirees.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14, 2015 at 1:00 PM at FRENCH - Lomas. Libby will be interred with her husband Elmer at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers Libby requested that memorial contributions be made to your favorite mission organization.
