Biography

James Johnson was a Kentuckian.

James was one of 11 known children born to Jesse and Mary Burns Johnson. He married Elizabeth Jane Roberts 13 Dec 1857 in Breathitt Co, KY. They had seven known children: Sarah, America, Madison, Anderson, Jesse, Whitley, and another son.

He's found on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 US Censuses in Breathitt Co, KY. He is also listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedules in Breathitt Co, KY.

On 15 Jan 1865, he enlisted as a private in the US Army (Union), Company G, 3rd Kentucky Infantry. He was discharged 17 Jul 1865. The US Veterans Gravesites database lists his burial in Matt Johnson Cemetery, Beattyville, Lee Co, KY.

James Madison was born in 1835. He passed away in 1914. [1]
