Biography

William Benjamin Johnson was born on January 11, 1867 in Beaufort County, South Carolina.[1] He was the son of Charles Edward Johnson and Emily Hodges.[1] His death certificate states he was born in Beaufort County, South Carolina[1] but his census information states Georgia.[2][3]

William married Susan Caroline Pinckney in January 1890.[4] They had 9 children.[4]

When Susie died in 1915, William was left a widower with several young children. No marriage records are found on 7 April 2023 (for the 1st marriage or any subsequent marriages).

In 1933, when his son Eustace Bellinger Johnson married Nevada, William was living in Yemassee, South Carolina. No 1920 or 1930 census records are found on 7 April 2023. By 1940, William was living with his daughter Clyde (now Zipperer) in Yemassee.[5]

William died on September 21, 1948 in Early Branch, South Carolina.[1] It is likely that he is buried in the Pinckney Family Cemetery in Pinckney Colony although he could be buried somewhere in Hampton County, his last known residence.
