William Pitts Johnson was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina.[1] He was the son of Eldredge D. Johnson and Unity Toole.[1] William married Lydia A. Bates about 1886.[2] They had at 8 children, 6 of whom were still living by the time of the 1910 census.[3] William died of stomach cancer on November 29, 1919, in Augusta, Georgia.[1] and is presumably buried in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta (Richmond County), Georgia.[1]
