Jesse Aaron Johnson was born about 1793. He was 27 years old and listed on the 1820 Screven County, Georgia census.[1] Jesse Johnson was one of the fortunate drawers in the 1821 land lottery. Notice of the winners appeared in the Augusta Chronicle & Gazette on December 2, 1821.[2]
His grandson Jesse Aaron Johnson born 1843, was named for him. This knowledge was passed down by his namesake to his own grandson who in turn told this to his grandson in 1984.[3] The story is confirmed by the middle initial in the 1843 tax digest entry. Jesse A. Johnson appears on the 1843 tax digest in Decatur County, Georgia in Captain Owen's District. He was polled, but not listed with property at the time. [4]
Further confirmation on his age is on the 1850 census. [5][6]
He wrote his will on February 8, 1859.[7]
