Biography

George Julius Johnson was born on June 6, 1885, to Thorbjørn "Thomas" Johnson and Torbjør Marie (Alland) Johnson of Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County, Minnesota.[1] He was baptized on June 28, 1885, in the North Waseca Lutheran Church that his father, uncles and brothers had built.[2]

At the time of the 1895 Minnesota State Census, George was 9 years old and living with his parents and siblings on the family's 160-acre dairy farm in Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County, Minnesota.[3]

In 1900, George was 14 years old and living with his parents and siblings on the family dairy farm in Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County, Minnesota.[4]

By the time that the 1915 census was taken in the state of North Dakota, George had moved there from Minnesota, he had married Thea Fladeland, and he was living with her and their firstborn child, 2-year-old Throop, on a farm they owned in McLean County.[5]

The couple had several known children, including:

  3. Manford (1917-2005)
  4. Blenda Eleanor (1920-2007)
  5. Leonard (1922-2002)

When George registered for the World War I military draft on September 12, 1918, he listed his age as 33 and his home address as Star Route, Ryder, McLean County, North Dakota.[6]

In 1920, George (34) and Thea (30) were living on their own farm in McLean County, North Dakota, with their children Thorp (6), Judith (4) and Manford (2).[7]

In 1925, George (39) and Thea (36) lived on their farm near Amundsville, North Dakota, with their children Throop (11), Judith (9), Manford (7), Blenda (4), Leonard (2) and Georgie (8 months).[8]

In 1930, George (45) and Thea (41) lived on their farm near Amundsville, North Dakota, with their children Thorp (16), Judith (14), Manford (12), Blenda (9), Leonard (5), Georgie (7), Glen (3) and Joseph (3 months).[9]

In 1940, George (54) and Thea (50) lived on their farm near Amundsville, North Dakota, with their children Throop (26), Blenda (19), Leonard (17), Georgie (15), Glen (13) and Joseph (10).[10]

When George registered for the World War II military draft on April 27, 1942, he listed his age as 56 and his home address as Roseglen, McLean County, North Dakota.[11]

George passed away on December 31, 1956, in Roseglen, McLean County, North Dakota, USA .[1] He is buried in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Roseglen, McLean County, North Dakota, USA.[1]
