NOTE: John Johnson, the son of Moses Johnson and Nancy Roberts, should not be confused with John L. "Saddler" Johnson from Kentucky. These are different lines. Since John L. married Polly Miller, the children of Polly Miller have been attached to a profile for Saddler Johnson

John Johnson was baptized Catholic along with several of his siblings on 7 Aug 1803 at St. Landry Church in Opelousas, LA.[1] His parents are known to have been in Louisiana for quite some time as Moses was a witness at his wife's wedding in 1796..[2]

We do know he wed Mary Clark from Mississippi on 24 November 1827.[3][4]

John and Mary Ann apparently divorced sometime before September 15 ,1829, the date John remarried[5]. Mary Ann also remarried to George Miles Welsh in 1830[6] In fact, John did marry Malinda Cole, the daughter of James Cole and Sally Simmons on 15 September 1829.[5][7][8]

John seems to have died sometime before 1845 as Melinda remarries in Jefferson County, Texas to John Raley or Riley on 3 October 1845.[9] Any doubt that this is her is allayed by the 1850 US Census where her late husband's nephew (the son of James Hayes and Marie Johnson) and family are living with her in Jefferson County.[10] The children in the household listed with the surname of Railey, must be sorted out between Malinda's children and her new husband's children. None of the children have the last name Johnson. It's also not clear if John and Malinda traveled as a family to Texas or if she went there after he'd died in Louisiana. More research is needed.

Merge rejected as they do not have same parents nor same place of birth. John L. (33700) was born in Kentucky in the late 1790's and John (650) was born in Louisiana about 1802. There is no evidence that Moses Johnson and Nancy Roberts are the parents of John L. Johnson-- only John Johnson.

Johnson-33700 and Johnson-650 appear to represent the same person because: same marriage, parents, etc
