Della was the youngest of three children born to John Johnson, a Swede, and Isabel Giles, a Scot, in Radersburg, MT. [1]
She is rumored to be descended from the ancient Kennedy clan.[1] She studied music at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, and at one time considered a career as a concert performer.
