Harrison Johnson served in the Civil War in the 14th Kentucky Regiment Infantry. ^[3][4][5] His Civil War Pension card shows he also served in Co I, 53rd Kentucky Infantry. ^[6]

Harrison Johnson married Jerusha Ellen Dilts on 24 October 1865 in Boyd County, Kentucky.

He was listed in the 1870 census of Boyd County, Kentucky as H. Johnson, age 26, b KY with wife Rusia, age 25 b VA and their children (all born KY): Elizabeth, age 5; Louisa, age 2; and a female name indecipherable, age1. They were living next door to Harrison's mother Elizabeth who was the wife of Peter Ripitoe. ^[7]
