Lead #1: Ella Johnson may be the daughter of James W (b.1840) and Georgiana V (b. 1847) Johnson of East Haven, CT. The 1880 Census [2] has an Ella E Johnson, right age. In that household:

Lead #2: Town of North Castle [3] records a lawsuit over property owned by Joseph Johnston he had purchased in April 1887 from James Hopkins. Joseph Johnston died March 3, 1907; his will gives the farm to his wife Catherine, who died in Greenwich Oct. 16, 1918. Catherine lived on the farm with her son Lewis Edward Johnston, who never married. Upon her death her heirs apparently could not agree to the disposition of the property which by 1919 was being rented out by Joseph I Johnston, another heir. A motion to partition it was started in 1927, and the properties were sold in 1928 to Sydney S. Cohen, a NYC real estate broker. The land straddled the border of Connecticut and New York and has the historic Dayton house on it. The motion to partition lists Ella Stilson, et.al., plaintiffs vs. Fancilia Johnston et al., defendants, Westchester County Clerks Office File 5009-1927.

The only reason Ella Stilson would be a plaintiff would be because she is a descendant of Joseph Johnson, and potential heir to the property. The only connection that works is for Ella to be the daughter of Joseph Johnston and Catherine Johnston; however this link has not be corroborated to date.
