When Mary Ann Milam was born in Henderson County, Tennessee on 25 Feb 1836, her father, William O. Milam, was 42 and her mother, Mary (Lowery) Milam, was 38. She lived with her parents[1][2] until she married John M. Ferguson in 1853 in Henderson County, Tennessee (assumed; see Research Note).
After marriage she continued to live in Henderson County with her husband and children in 1860,[3] 1870,[4] and 1880.[5] Mary Ann is listed as the head of household in the 1880 Census, and John is not included. (No explanation has been found for this.)
She died on 28 Jan 1907 in Henderson County, Tennessee.
Research Notes
Original details:
Marriage date is speculation; however, her first child was born on 26 Jul 1853 when she was only 17. It is unlikely that she married before 1852. Also, considering she was born in Henderson County, resided in Henderson County on all documented examples, and died in Henderson County, it is highly likely that she married in Henderson County.
The list of siblings is missing O. C. Milam, Elizabeth (Milam) Lucas, Robert Milam, Rufe(?) Milam, and Caroline Milam. These additional siblings are identified by Lewis M. Milam in a deposition in the contesting of the Will of P. G. Milam, see image 526.[6]
Mary Ann (Milam) Ferguson is named in the Will of her brother, Green Milam, see above deposition of Lewis M. Milam on image 537.
There is some conflicting information concerning whether Mary Ann Ferguson's maiden name was Milam or Johnson. Per the photo album of Dora Dyer, the photo image on this profile was "Mary Ann Milam, my grandmother." (The photo has been "enhanced" by an unknown person by outlining her features with a pencil; hence, the poor photo quality.) Find-a-Grave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/33738352/mary-ann-ferguson) lists a Mary Ann Johnson with some of the same children as Mary Ann Milam.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
