John was shot and killed in Civil War. Sergt. Co. A 2nd Louisiana Calvary, enlisted Aug. 18, 1862 Opelousas, Louisiana. Present on roll for Dec. 31, 1862 to Feb. 28, 1863. Roll for July & Aug. 1863. Killed in action August 18, 1863. Died at Mrs. Cox's Hospital, Vicksburg , of wounds received on the "Ram Arkansas". He is laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Warren county, Vicksburg, Mississippi. His widow, Adelaide, eventually applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension and according to records, there is an application containing three pages of file at the Archives in Baton Rouge.
