Biography

I live in Northern Colorado and am currently semi-retired. I have spent my professional career as a paramedic, educator and disaster responder. I have a master’s degree in fire service administration and disaster. My podcast, “The Disaster Podcast” in its eight year. As the training officer for a federal disaster medical assistance team, I have taken part in training events in Ukraine, and have deployed nationally on several disasters. I have worked with an emergency medical services focused TV production company as a producer, photographer, and videographer. I’m a freelance writer for EMS related journals, online publications and textbooks. An interest in documenting my experiences early in my career morphed into a series of romantic suspense novels which are focused on the lives of firefighter-paramedics. Currently, I work as a writer, editor and secretary for a non-profit disaster organization. An interest in genealogy has morphed into an almost full time endeavor on family research and documentation. I love getting to know the people who contributed to my being here and I enjoy helping other people find their own ancestors.

PS. Please avoid the use of abbreviations as they can mean different things in different countries, always use the full words

Thanks, Janet. Even though I've been doing genealogy for a long time I'm impressed with all the great info WikiTree has. I'm already working on some projects and really enjoying it.

Thanks for showing Scotland as one of your interests. If you haven’t yet done so, please join the Scotland project via the G-2-G topic. I hope you get a great deal of pleasure collaborating with colleagues in this great project. If you have any questions or wish any advice either send me a private message or email me.
Hi Mark,

Just this morning I received an e-mail from Jackie to set me up on the trail so I'm good to go. Thanks for checking up on me!

Hi Sam,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Hmmm, yes it helps. Thanks, Debi. I'll fix it.
Not sure what happened but it should be working now. I re-wrote it.
Yep, that worked. Hopefully it will help you collaborate with others interested in your twig of the tree.

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Hi Sandra

Thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Happy tree climbing
