Biography

Doctor James Johnston was born in 1685 at Dumfries, Dumfries-shire, Scotland. He was baptised on 1 February 1685 at Dumfries, Dumfries-shire, Scotland. At the age of 37 he married Jean Nisbet, daughter of William Nisbet, on 14 January 1722 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. He gained the rank of Surgeon in the Royal Navy. He and Jean emigrated to Georgia with children Dr. Lewis Johnston b. 19 Nov 1725 in Edinburgh, Scotland, d. 1797 Janet Johnston (may have been Jean Johnston baptized 8 Oct 1727 in Edinburgh, Scotland) Dr. Andrew Johnston b. 1 Apr 1735 in Edinburgh, Scotland, d. 1801 Marion Johnston b. 5 Mar 1737 in Edinburgh, Scotland Dr. James Johnston b. 13 Aug 1738 in Edinburgh, Scotland Rachel Johnston b. 15 Sep 1740 in Edinburgh, Scotland John Johnston b. 2 Aug 1739 in Edinburgh, Scotland Henriette (no birth record found) Elizabeth Johnston (may have been Helen Elizabeth Johnston b. 17 Feb 1724)
