Biography

David was born about 1824. He was the son of David Johnston. He passed away in 1894. He married Nancy Agnes Calwell on 25 Feb 1857 at Clough Presbyterian Church, Clough Antrim. He died from an infection in the knee on 3 Jan 1894 with his wife, Nancy, present at the death. He was described as 75 years of age. He is buried in Clough graveyard.

David Johnston 3 Jan 1894 - The last will and testament of David Johnston Ballyreagh Clough Co. Antrim. In the name of God Amen. The 31st day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety three. I David Johnston of Ballyreagh County of Antrim being in delicate health but in sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament at the same time revoking all former wills made m]by me declaring this to be my last will and testament. First I give and bequeath unto my wife Nancy Johnston all my property and chattels during her natural life and if the said Nancy Johnston and my son David Johnston do not choose to live together I allow my son David Johnston to give my wife Nancy Johnston the room next John Johnston’s to dwell in together with the sum of eight pounds sterling per summer and eight loads of turf per summer and at her decease I allow my property and chattels to fall to my son David Johnston who is at the same time to pay to my daughter Nancy Jane Adams the sum of £5 and to my daughter Lizzie Johnston the sum of £20.At the same time I do appoint Mr Andrew Calwell farmer Ballyreagh and Mr David Johnston farmer and smith, Tullynewey, joint executors of this my last will and testament to which I hereunto add my seal this 31st day of December 1893 - David Johnston (his mark) -signed in presence of John Johnston (his mark), Ballyreagh Clough Co. Antrim - William Morton, Ballyreagh - probate of the will of David Johnston deceased granted on the 5 day of March 1894 to Andrew Calwell and David Johnston the executors therein named.
