Marriage.
By special license, on Wednesday last, at St. Lukes Church, Liverpool, by the Rev. Richard Cartwright, David Johnston, Esq., of Georges Hall, Banks Town, to Miss Selina Willey, niece of Major Antill, of Jarvisfield. The bridal party set off for Horsely the seat of Edward Weston, Esq.
The farmhouse building at Georges Hall was on land which was prone to flooding and in 1837 David built a new house in a situation safer from the floods. This building, known as The Homestead is still there today.
David Johnston, Esq., of George's Hall, near Liverpool, died on Sunday last, at the residence of his brother, Captain Robert Johnston, Annandale, after an illness of but two days duration. His complaint was congestion of the liver coupled with influenza. The deceased gentleman, who was a native of the colony, was the third son of the late Lieutenant Colonel Johnston, whose prominent connection with the early history of Australia is well known. Mr. Johnston was a gentleman held in the highest respect by all sections of the community, and his unexpected death will cast a gloom not only over a large circle of friends, but on colonists of all classes, as, from his active habits, he was widely known, and was very highly esteemed, and by none more so than by his numerous tenantry, to whom he was a most kind and considerate landlord. His funeral will take place on Thursday, in the family tomb at Annandale.
