Biography

Sir John Johnston of Caskieben, 4th Bt. was the son of John Johnston and Margaret Johnston. He married Janet Mitchell, daughter of Thomas Mitchell of Thainston, in April 1683.1 He died in November 1724, without surviving male issue.

He succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Johnston, of Caskieben (N.S., 1626) on 23 December 1690. He was a merchant at Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Sir John purchased Cordyce, one of the old family properties, and changed its name to Caskieben. He fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715, as a Jacobite. He lived at Newplace, Scotland.
