Notables Project
Arthur Johnston is Notable.

Arthur Johnston was a Scottish poet and physician.

Arthur Johnston was the son of George Johnston of Caskieben and his wife Christian Forbes.[1] He was born about 1579 in Caskieben, Aberdeenshire.[2][3]

Arthur first went to Casimir College in Heidelberg, where some of his earliest poems were published, and then to Sedan in France. Arthur was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine in Padua in 1610. [2][3]

While in Sedan, Arthur married Marie de Cagnolles on 21 November 1604[4] by whom he is reputed to have had 13 children[2][3]. At least three of his children were baptised in Sedan:

  1. Marie Jonstonne (bp 4 December 1605)[5]
  2. Daniel Jonston (bp 31 December 1606)[6]
  3. Françoise Jonston (bp 13 April 1608)[7]

Arthur returned to Scotland where Marie died in 1624.[2][3]

Arthur then married Barbara Gordon[2][3] by whom he had several children:

  1. Barbara Johnestone (bp 12 July 1631)[8]
  2. William Jonstonne (bp 15 December 1636)[9]

Arthur also had a daughter, Margaret, who married George Dalgarno in 1652.[2]

Arthur became a burgess of the City of Aberdeen in 1622, and was elected rector of King's College, Aberdeen in 1637.[2][3]

Arthur Johnston died in Oxford, Oxfordshire in 1641[2][3]

Please check this profile = you have him dying in 1641 but his son Edward was not apparently born until 1645 - four years later.

Johnson-125062 and Johnston-495 appear to represent the same person because: The profile recently created as Arthur Johnson appears to be a version of the reliably known Arthur Johnston, with a mistake as to the date/place of death, and dubious father and son.

Johnston-11837 and Johnston-495 appear to represent the same person because: part of duplicated family - same parents, duplicated spouse and children. slightly different birth date, same death date.

Sources exist in Johnston-495, Biography and sources recently added to Johnston-11837, but they are entered in Research section.

I wish to say that I like what has been done with this profilke. This is fvery similar to what I have at Ancestry. There is another version of Dr. Arthur that seems sad and confused. And when I created a Barbara Gordon as she was missing from that profile it was quickly tossed aside and left to float alone. Best wishes for continuing to let truth and honest good effort guide your way.

Johnston-495 and Johnston-8380 appear to represent the same person because: They must be the same person - the biographies are the same, but one has much more info. than the other. Died same place, same time. Married to same lady. BUT their birth dates are different, so would need some research to establish the correct date.
This person died before his son's birth. I can't figure out which date is incorrect at first glance.
