Biography
Maude Belle Johnston, wife of Harry Kremer Layman, was a teacher in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. For many years prior to their marriage, both the Laymans and the Johnstons had attended the Harbaugh Reformed Church in Rouzerville/Waynesboro. Maude was a grandniece of Rev. Henry Harbaugh, her paternal grandmother being Susan Harbaugh, wife of William Johnston.
Maude was widowed at the young age of 44, her husband having fallen to the 1918 flu pandemic. She never remarried but remained devoted to her family and her church and was laid to rest beside Harry when she died at the age of 86.
