Hello Bruce and Robert,

I have a different father for Dr. John Johnstone b. 1661.

1660 Early History of Perth Amboy, New Jersey; pg. 68 - 71 (Abbreviated)

John Johnstone of Ochiltree selected land for a plantation 9 miles from Amboy, New Jersey and 4 miles from Piscataway. Scot gave letters from him.

John JOHNSTONE was born in 1661. He became a druggist in Edenborough.. On April 18, 1885 he married Eupham SCOT. He sailed to America aboard the Henry and Francis arriving in Dec. of 1685 at age 24. On Jan15, 1685/6 he petitioned the Board of Property for SCOT’S 500 acres in Monmouth Co., New Jersey. He called the property “ .SCOTSCHESTERBURG”. He lived in New York. Prior to 1707 he moved to Amboy. He had losses in importing people on the Henry & Francis and received an additional tract of land in Monmouth County of 30,500 acres. In 1709/10 he was a member of the Provisional Assembly of New Jersey. In 1720 he was on the Council of Governor Burnett in New York until 1722. He built a mansion on the banks of the Raritan River called “Edenborough Castle”. He also acquired 10,000 acres that Lord Neil CAMPBELL was to give to SCOT. John JOHNSTONE died Sept. 7, 1732, aged 71.

John SCOT was also from Ochiltree and since De. John Johnstone (Jr.) married Eupham Scot, this makes sense.

John Scot died on the journey from Scotland.

Cordially, Bruce E. McEwen

Note that John Johnstone has three profiles that are queued to be merged. Johnstone-1117 is the lowest-numbered profile for the preferred LNAB of Johnstone, but Johnstone-1821 and Johnston-13947 have more complete contents.

UPDATED: Now there are only two profiles left to merge.

Johnston-13947 and Johnstone-1117 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth, same death, same wife. Merge to Johnstone-1117 -- the lower-numbered profile with the LNAB of Johnstone.

Johnstone-1821 and Johnstone-1117 appear to represent the same person because: It's clear from the death information and the wife's name that these are supposed to represent the same person. I don't know which birth is correct, but I think 1661 is a better guess for a man of his education status who married in 1686.

Merge to the lower-numbered profile with LNAB of Johnstone.
