Biography

Catherine Jolly was born in Whitehaven, Cumberland County England in 1851. She married John Cavanaugh in 1871. In the 1880's the family left England for Philadelphia. They lived in the Manayunk area of Philadelphia, near the Schuylkill River.

On the 1900 census, Catherine says she gave birth to 14 children and nine were still alive. On the 1910 census, she says she gave birth to 13 children and 9 were still alive. I do not see any evidence that any of her children died in Philadelphia. Since the births were registered as Cavener instead of Cavanaugh, I am adding some children who I suspect were her children, born and died in Whitehaven.

Her death certificate also says the same thing about paralysis and exhaustion as her husbands did in 1917
